Minutes after driving ban, man drives himself home
This is another ‘this happened in Liverpool but isn’t very cultural’ story, but what the hell – it amused me.
This sorry tale involves Peter Latham, who consoled himself upon receiving a driving ban by getting in his car and returning home. Needless to say, the judge at his second trial was unwilling to let history repeat itself and promptly sent him straight to jail for ten weeks.
Story from MotorTorque.com
Peter Latham received a year-long ban after admitting driving under the influence and using a mobile phone while driving at Liverpool Community Justice Centre in Vauxhall.
But minutes later Latham walked from the court to his car and drove himself home, still holding his driving ban in his hand. He was spotted on CCTV and the taped handed over to police.
The move was described by Judge Ian Lomax as a ‘blatant and tantamount to contempt’ and sentenced him to ten weeks in prison.
